I had heard of all these men, mostly middle-aged white men, who hate on Greta Thunberg, but I never thought it was as bad as it turned out to be when I made the huge mistake of diving into a Google orgy by typing in „fuck you Greta bumper stickers“ (a Facebook „friend“ proudly posted a picture of his car carrying that sticker, he‘s deleted it now, and I hope his car dies!) and „white middle aged men hating Greta Thunberg“. Jesus Christ! High-profiled, grown up men; politicians, millionaires, CEOs; most of them fathers, all of them using social media to bully and puke hatred towards a 16-year-old girl. Adult men twittering about how they wish she would drown in the Atlantic, calling her a freak, a psycho and making jokes online about badly hidden rape fantasies. And when journalists write articles about the horrendous phenomenon of all these middle-aged white men and their hate obsession, they get attacked and accused of misandry in the comment section, where furious middle-aged white men fail to say a word about the horrifying verbal abuse that Greta is facing, but instead cry rivers because they are the real victims here, victims of evil attacks on poor innocent men, victims of generalisation. How is this real??? That made me wonder if it would look like this if Greta were an eloquent, calm 16-year-old boy with a similarly proper hair cut by the name of Peter. Would they hate as loudly? Would they hate at all? And then I took it a step further and tried to imagine hoards of middle-aged white women hating on Peter, screaming „Peter, you fucking freak!“ to a child, picking up their kids from school in SUVs with „fuck you Peter“-bumper stickers on them.
Can you see it? Can you visualise this in your wildest imagination? No? Yeah … neither can I!
Denice is of the opinion that middle-aged white men hate being called that because they think that they are just simply the „people“. Nothing makes them madder than being labelled. So let‘s label them. A lot!
